"Tense" means both stressful/awkward and verb tenses (past, present, future)! English has 12 major verb tenses used to indicate when actions occur. Past tense shows completed actions, present tense shows current actions, and future tense shows upcoming actions. The concept of grammatical tense exists in most languages worldwide. Ancient Greek had more tenses than modern English. Some languages like Mandarin Chinese have no formal tense system at all!
