Why do seagulls fly over the sea?
Because if they flew over the bay, they would be bagels!

The joke works by swapping "sea" for "bay," turning sea gulls into "bay gulls," which sounds just like the chewy breakfast favorite. Funny enough, there's no single bird species officially called a seagull: scientists just call them gulls, and plenty of them live far inland around lakes, farms, and even parking lots. Bagels have a pretty long flight history of their own, with one of the earliest written mentions showing up in the community rules of Kraków, Poland, back in 1610.
