Kate Middleton Shares 40th Birthday Portraits

The Duchess of Cambridge has turned 40!

Kate Middleton turned 40 on January 9, 2022. Kensington Palace released three new portraits of the Duchess to celebrate the occasion. The first photo is taken on a classic coloring with a mix of sepia tones and black and white. She's wearing a huge chiffon gown while showing off her pearl drop earrings and sapphire engagement ring (both of which belonged to mother-in-law Princess Diana).

The next photo is much more modern and in full color. She donned a red gown with a natural makeup look. She also wore diamond earrings from Queen Elizabeth.

The last photo is a close-up of the Duchess. She's wearing another one-shoulder dress with her hair swept over her shoulder. These photos are absolutely timeless!

The photos have been officially entered the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery. They will be displayed over the course of the year in three places that hold special meaning to Kate: Berkshire, St. Andrews, and Anglesey.

Kate grew up in Bucklebury, Berkshire, met Prince William at St. Andrews as a freshman at the University of St. Andrews, and first lived with Prince William on the island of Anglesey, Wales.
