Hawaii Plans "Goat Lottery"

There are over 700 goats taking over a national park in Hawaii. They're noted as an "invasive species" and are in the beginning stages of disrupting the natural growth of the park.

The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources has begun the process of rounding up the goats at Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park. In order to give the goats a happy new home, they will be conducting a lottery where winners will receive permits to house their new goats.

Officials said that they will be offering permits to those who meet the requirements. In order to enter the lottery, you must meet the requirements for the permits. That includes having at least a 16-foot trailer that will transport the goats to their new homes.

Each winner will be required to take at least 20 and no more than 50 goats.

The lottery will take place on July 28. There are tons of folks in the area who have more than enough land, and the addition of these goats will help them take better care of the land. It's a win-win-win!
