Animal Hospital Offers End-of-Life Patients Chocolate "Goodbye Kisses"

An animal hospital in Alabama is letting their euthanasia patients taste chocolate before their passing.

Smiths Station Animal Hospital recently posted a photo on their Facebook page of a jar of Hershey kisses on their front desk with the words "Goodbye Kisses" written on it. Next to that jar is a note that says, "This jar is reserved for our euthanasia appointments...because no dog should go to Heaven without tasting chocolate."

Dr. Nicole Namie said, "Typically, these are treats that I wouldn't recommend giving to my patients, but in their final moments, I think it's important to offer them something special."

While the clinic has been doing this for years, its recent share on Facebook has reached thousands of people praising them for this heartfelt gesture.

Because the hospital is in a small community, the doctors there are also attached to their clients and it's heartbreaking for them to say their goodbyes as well.

The post has since been shared over 113,000 times on Facebook and made its way to TikTok and Reddit feeds too.
