Alzheimer's Patient Proposes to Woman—But She's Already His Wife

Lisa and Peter Marshall have been married for 12 years—but when Peter asked his wife to tie the knot once again, she emphatically agreed.

Peter suffers from early-onset Alzheimer's. At the age of 56, his past is slowly slipping away from him, but no matter how rapidly his illness progresses, Lisa will remain by his side. Even if he can't remember her name, she knows that Peter loves her.

"He doesn't know that I'm his wife. I'm just his favorite person," Lisa said. "I don't need to have a label. I don't need a name because our hearts are connected."

Last winter, Peter and Lisa were watching a wedding on TV when Peter proposed to Lisa, not realizing they were already married. Lisa accepted and a date was set. The whole occasion was put together by Lisa's daughter, who is an event planner.

"It was so perfect. I couldn't have dreamt for a better day. It was so magical," she said. "I can't remember seeing him so happy for so long... I'm the luckiest girl in the world. I [got] to do it twice."
